History of Circle of Children Village School

Our programs are designed to empower youth to become active stewards of the earth and learn to use their voice to inspire and activate positive change in the world. Circle of Children offers all of its services as a free resource. We embody the values of a gift economy, and believe in the power of unconditional generosity to bring forth an era of peace and prosperity.Blackhorse3

In February of 2006, Circle of Children was born from Blackhorse Shasta’s heart in Arcata, California. Circle of Children was created to awaken the hearts and inner child of the humanity by demonstrating how beautiful life is when connected to the natural world and embodying our unique gifts and divine purpose.

Blackhorse sought out on a three year self discovery adventure, to immerse himself in health consciousness and sustainable living practices. Along the way, he found himself becoming a mentor to friends’ children. He tuned into the spirit of the child and intuitively learned creative ways to relate, play, and nurture the creativity of children. These inspirational experiences shaped the nature of Circle of Children.

In February 2009, Blackhorse landed in Mt Shasta, California. He shared his vision with the local community and asked for support. The founder of the Waldorf School of Natural Living opened her land to host a summer camp. This was the first place that Circle of Children sprouted roots.

September 20th, 2009, Blackhorse was invited to Eugene, Oregon. Blackhorse organized a three day gathering in a city park next to a playground. With the help of many children and their parents, we built a teepee, a bamboo kitchen, prepared food and ate as Blackhorse4 a tribe. We played music, danced and created art. This gathering was an introduction and invitation to/for the Eugene community to participate in the creation of our vision.

On October 21st, 2009, 7 acres of raw land was gifted to build our village. We spent two years offering sustainable living and earth stewardship skills to many children and families, while growing a sustainable living center.

In October 2010, we were donated the 1 year use (all utilities paid) of a storefront building in the heart of Downtown Eugene. We hosted between 2-6 classes daily, 5-7 days weekly, and numerous community events, as a free resource. Classes ranged from painting, candle making, dance, music, yoga, theater, hula-hoop, youth empowerment, and much more. We also hosted community building circles, potlucks, music and art events, and become a hub for groups that were activating change in our local community.

In January 2012 our intention was to find land that we could put roots down and grow the model youth empowerment & transformation center. Two weeks later a 60 acre conference center on Triangle Lakefront property was donated. Since then we have been offering youth empowerment programs that inspire and activate world change.

Enriching the lives of children and families by offering free experiential education opportunities centering around earth exploration, creative expression, and community connection.

Circle of Children is growing an education and transformation center dedicated to awakening the spirit of the child within all beings.

We provide an enriched environment for children of all ages to connect with nature, explore their natural curiosities and discover their inherent gifts. We are creating an innovative education model with a hands-on project and service-based approach to Blackhorse2learning. Participants learn sustainable living, earth stewardship, holistic health, creative arts, community building and dynamic leadership skills.  This model is being designed to provide youth with the wisdom, tools, resources and experience necessary to realize their limitless potential and follow their dreams.

Our programs uplift youth, grow and sustain our centre, and unify a global community network to create a blueprint for harmonious living on earth.

Circle of Children offers all of its services as a free resource. We embody the values of a gift economy, and believe in the power of unconditional generosity to bring forth an era of peace and prosperity.
